Sparkr Flip and Wick: August Update

We hope you’re having a great summer! We're excited to share a couple of announcements with you today about how the Sparkr Wick and Spark Flip are coming along:

DESIGN UPDATES

Sparkr Wick

Per popular backer demand, we’ve added a way to hang the Wick close to where you use it most. We built in small loop to the end of the Wick and will include a lanyard. This way you can keep your Wick close to where you use it most or keep it out of reach of your pyro-crazed child (or spouse).

We’ve also made some small aesthetic updates to the Wick. To simplify color matching, we have made all the metal parts gray, while keeping the plastic and ceramic pieces black.

Sparkr Flip

We’ve been testing the hell out our initial functioning prototypes of the Flip for months now to the point that we’ve melted their poor, 3d-printed plastic parts into oblivion. From our experiences, we were led to make a few design changes to improve the functionality of the Flip, especially when using it to light up tobacco pipes, bowls of medicinal herbs, or deep jar candles.

We’ve added 5/16” (8mm) of additional reach to the Flip through a slight modification of the aluminum cover. Instead of laying flush with the black ABS body, it stays around 5/32” (4mm) above the body of the flip. The smaller diameter of the aluminum cover allows you to reach into smaller spaces easier which improved functionality.

PRODUCTION UPDATE

We’re thrilled to let you know that all the moulds and tooling have been completed for both the Sparkr Wick and Flip. The Circuit board designs and production prototypes will also be finalized and begin their testing cycle in the next couple of weeks. All the Lithium battery cells for the Sparkr Flip and Wick have been ordered and will be delivered to our production facility at the beginning of September.

Production Plan Moving Foward

In order to make production go as smoothly as possible, we won’t be sitting around twiddling our thumbs until the batteries arrive in September. We are going to begin our full production run of all the assembly pieces.

Once the assembly pieces are complete, we will begin a trial production run of ~100 pieces of both the Sparkr Wick and Sparkr Flip with a small batch of batteries that we already have on hand. This small production batch will then undergo some heavy in-house testing and quality control measures so we can work out any kinks in the assembly process and fix any issues with the products before our large order of Lithium battery cells arrive in early September.

Our manufacturing partner should then be more than prepared to start pumping out our first large production run of the Flip and Wick in early September. If everything goes as planned, *fingers crossed*, we should have your orders on a boat heading towards your nearest fulfillment center by the end of September.

We will continue to send updates through the production process and look forward to sharing our first production samples with you hopefully by the end of this month!

We can't believe it's almost July! Not only does that mean fireworks, campfires, and barbecues, it also means that the last day to make final updates to your order is coming soon! Please take a minute to finish your survey by this Sunday, July 1st. After this date, we will lock down your reward selections and charge cards for add-on item purchases, pledge upgrades, and pre-orders. You can update your shipping address up until we lock addresses for shipping closer to our fulfillment date in October.

Now Let's Down to Business...

Below you will find some important next steps that relate to your pledge of The Sparkr Electric Lighters:

STEP 1 - COLLECT KICKSTARTER DATA: It takes about 2 weeks for Kickstarter to compile all of the credit charges and put together a final list of backer information (pledge amounts, emails etc).

STEP 2 - BACKERKIT SURVEY: As soon as phase 1 is complete and in our hands, we will send you an official survey via Backerkit. This Survey will be delivered to your email listed on your Kickstarter account, so make sure you have your info up to date in your profile. In the survey, we will collect all necessary information including shipping info, Sparkr choice, special instructions and much more. Here are some key things to remember:

*THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS UPDATE*

It’s very important that the survey is answered as fast as possible, as this is the final piece of info we need before we can submit the order for production. Please try to do this right when you receive the email (we’ll send an update out letting you know the survey has been sent).

STEP 3 - PRODUCTION: As outlined in our campaign timeline, production will take about 30-45 days. We promised shipping by October, and we’ll do everything in our power to make that happen. Again, the critical piece to getting this moving quickly is getting those surveys completed! While production is happening, we plan to keep everyone up to date on every step of the process, and will fill you in on some of the interesting aspects of the manufacturing process.

STEP 4 - DELIVERY: We will keep you updated on expected arrival times, if your address changes from now until then, please let us know prior to the final ship date.  

STEP 5 - LIGHT IT UP: Disclaimer: We will not be held responsible for any arson or reckless burning charges if you get carried away. We suggest you ease into it with a simple candle lighting.
